Illegal immigration in the United States has grown to be a major problem, one that is shown to us often, especially for residents in Border States, like Texas. There are an estimated over 12 million illegal aliens living in the United States, and a little more than half of them broke the law to get here (Howell).
Pictures like this one taken on the border in Tijuana, Mexico illustrates that there is a huge problem and that it has been recognized and even slightly accommodated for. According to the author of this article, the wall along the left side of the highway is the border wall, and that is the United States on the other side, which is why the sign is in the spot. This wall is low enough that I’m sure many people cross over it daily.
This chart is interesting because as you can imagine, the states with the highest number of illegals are the Border States with Mexico, but many illegals are spreading out once they get here, and states such as Florida and Illinois, also have a big problem with trafficking people.
Illegal immigration is also quickly becoming a make or break policy when it comes to electing officials. As many small elections were held last month, I was bombarded by media ads both on the television and radio trying to sway me one direction or the other.

I have listed the link for a commercial did not see at home, but did find while doing my research. It is paid for by the United States Minutemen, and I believe it was intended to gain support for their cause to protect the border. I also think they were trying to point of the negatives of illegal immigration in order to get you to take their side against illegal immigrants.
Satire has even become a big way media portrays illegal immigrants as evidence by a few of these cartoon ads.
To some things up, illegal immigration is a pressing issue that everyone needs to be aware of, especially for residents of Border States like you and me. The United States has to crack down at the border, and find ways to make legal immigration easier and more accessible to everyone. I believe that with these and other measures, over time, this problem can get better. It will never be perfect, but immigration needs to have more of a legal and orderly aspect.
